FAQ
Short answers to common questions about Oxys DB Studio.
Is Oxys DB Studio free?
Yes. It is open source, under the MIT or Apache-2.0 licence, at your choice. There is no paid edition, no licence key and no account.
Does it send data about me or my databases anywhere?
No. There is no telemetry, analytics or crash reporting. The only requests it makes on its own are the update check (which you can turn off) and what you set up yourself: AI Helper, Team Sharing, a remote runner. See Privacy.
Which MongoDB versions are supported?
Servers from 4.2 onwards are tested in every release, standalone, as replica sets and as sharded clusters, with and without TLS. Older servers (from 2.6) are reached through a local relay, without TLS, with fewer features for the oldest ones. Features a server’s version lacks are greyed out, with the reason in their tooltip.
Does it work with MongoDB Atlas?
Yes, like any server: mongodb+srv:// connection strings, TLS, SCRAM and X.509 authentication. See
Connections.
Which operating systems are supported?
Linux (x86_64: .tar.gz, .deb, .rpm) and Windows (x86_64: installer or portable zip). A macOS
build is not available yet.
Can I use it without internet access?
Yes. Turn on Edit › Preferences › Advanced settings › Network › Offline mode: the update check, the AI Helper and Team Sharing stop, and database connections keep working. Administrators can also turn updates off for every user with a policy file (see Preferences).
Can I carry it on a USB drive with my settings?
Yes: create a folder named oxysdb-data next to the executable (portable mode). Settings,
connections, data and logs are kept there. Passwords still go to the system’s credential store
unless you use the key store (see Security).
How do I move my connections to a new computer?
Edit › Preferences › General › Move to another computer › Export settings…, then Import settings… on the new computer. Passwords are not exported: enter them again. See Preferences.
Can I protect production from accidental writes?
Yes. Save the connection with the Read-Only Lock: every write is refused before anything is sent, whatever tool runs it. Destructive operations always ask for confirmation, some by typing the name of what will be destroyed. See Security.
Can I script it, or let an AI agent use it?
Yes. Every action is a command with an id, usable from oxysdb-cli and, read-only, from the local
MCP server. See Automation.
Can my team share connections and queries?
Yes, through a team server you host yourself. See Team and Self-hosting.
Which SQL databases can I migrate from or to?
See Data for the supported sources and targets, and the client libraries some of them need.
Where are my settings and logs?
Help › About Oxys DB Studio shows every folder; Help › Open Logs Folder opens the logs. See Troubleshooting and logs.
How do I report a bug or a security problem?
Bugs: Help › Report a Problem… prepares a report you read in full before sharing it. Security problems: report them privately, as described in Security.
