Install Oxys DB Studio
Packages for Linux and Windows, what each needs, and the platforms not available yet.
Oxys DB Studio is a single native application. It needs no Java, Node.js or other runtime: the
MongoDB shell used by IntelliShell (mongosh) ships inside the package, and dump and restore are
built in.
Platform status
| Platform | Packages | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Linux x86_64 | .tar.gz (with install.sh), .deb, .rpm | Supported. Tested on Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 and 26.04 and Fedora 42, under X11 and Wayland. |
| Windows x86_64 | -setup.exe (per-user installer), portable .zip, .msi (per-machine) | Supported. Tested on Windows 11. |
| Linux aarch64 | .tar.gz | Built, but not tested on real hardware yet. |
| Windows ARM64 | none published | Not available yet. |
| macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) | none | Not available yet. macOS builds are deferred; there is no package to install today. |
Install on Linux
Linux packages need glibc 2.35 or newer: Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36, RHEL 10 and later. Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11 and RHEL 8 or 9 are not supported.
With the tarball (any distribution, no root needed)
- Download
oxysdb-<version>-linux-x86_64.tar.gzand extract it. - In the extracted folder, run
./install.sh. - Choose where to copy the application. The script links
oxysdbandoxysdb-cliinto~/.local/binand adds a desktop launcher. - Start Oxys DB Studio from your desktop’s application menu, or run
oxysdb.
With the .deb or .rpm package
- Download
oxysdb_<version>_amd64.deb(Debian, Ubuntu) oroxysdb-<version>-1.x86_64.rpm(Fedora and other RPM distributions). - Install it with your package manager, for example
sudo apt install ./oxysdb_<version>_amd64.deborsudo dnf install ./oxysdb-<version>-1.x86_64.rpm. - Start Oxys DB Studio from the application menu.
Install on Windows
- Download one of:
oxysdb-<version>-windows-x86_64-setup.exe: installs for your user only, without administrator rights, into%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Oxys DB Studio, with a Start menu shortcut.oxysdb-<version>-windows-x86_64.zip: a portable folder; extract it anywhere and runoxysdb.exe.oxysdb-<version>-windows-x86_64.msi: a per-machine package for administrators and deployment tools, installed intoC:\Program Files\Oxys DB Studio.
- Run the installer, or extract the zip.
- Start Oxys DB Studio from the Start menu (or
oxysdb.exein the zip folder).
The Windows packages are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time you run them. Check the download against the published SHA-256 checksum, then choose to run it anyway.
Reference
| Item | Location |
|---|---|
| Settings and saved connections (Linux) | ~/.config/oxysdb |
| Application data (Linux) | ~/.local/share/oxysdb |
| Logs, install and update log | ~/.oxysdb on Linux, %USERPROFILE%\.oxysdb on Windows |
| Portable mode | An oxysdb-data folder next to the executable holds config/, data/ and logs/ instead of the per-user folders, so a zip or tarball install can travel with its settings |
| Environment overrides | OXYSDB_CONFIG_DIR, OXYSDB_DATA_DIR, OXYSDB_LOG_DIR |
Updates
Help > Check for Updates looks for a newer release. On Linux tarball installs the application can update itself. On Windows the update notice points you to the new installer or zip rather than replacing the installed files. MSI installs never check for updates: your deployment tool handles them.
Uninstall
- Tarball: run
install.sh --uninstall. It asks whether to delete your connections, settings and logs too (the default answer is No). - .deb / .rpm: remove the
oxysdbpackage with your package manager. - Windows installer: use Settings > Apps, or the uninstaller in the install folder. It asks the same question about your data.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
The program does not start on Linux and mentions GLIBC_2.3x | Your distribution’s glibc is older than 2.35. Use a newer distribution. |
| SmartScreen blocks the Windows installer | The packages are not signed yet. Verify the checksum, then choose to run it anyway. |
| High idle CPU on a Windows virtual machine | Without a GPU, Windows draws with software rendering. It works, with a higher idle CPU use. |
| You are on macOS | No macOS build exists yet. |
Next: First launch.
