Export and share connections

Copy a connection as a URI, export several connections to a file, or share them with your team.

There are three ways to hand a connection to someone else: as a connection string, as an export file of several connections, or through Team Sharing.

Copy one connection as a URI

From the connection tree:

  1. Right-click an open connection and choose Export URI….
  2. Tick Include password only if the receiver should get it.
  3. Copy the connection string.

From the Connection Manager, select a connection and click To URI (or To URI… in its context menu). In the connection dialog, To URI… on the Server tab shows the settings being edited.

Export several connections to a file or the clipboard

  1. In the Connection Manager, select the connections (none selected exports them all).
  2. Click Export.
  3. Choose what goes in (table below). The box lists the settings that will be exported.
  4. Click Export to Clipboard, or Export to File to write a .uri file.
OptionDefaultEffect
Include usernameonKeeps user names in the strings.
Include passwordsoffAdds the saved passwords. Anyone with the file can then sign in.
Include foldersonKeeps each connection’s folder.
Include extensions (e.g. SSH configuration)onKeeps the settings a plain connection string cannot hold: name, SSH tunnel, proxy and so on.
Convert DNS Seedlist Connections to Standard FormatoffResolves mongodb+srv:// names into a mongodb:// host list.

The receiver imports the file with Import in the Connection Manager (see Import connections), or pastes a single string in the New Connection wizard.

Share with your team

When Team Sharing is set up and you are signed in (My resources below the connection tree):

ActionWhere
Send one connection to colleagues by e-mail addressQuick Share connection in the context menu of a connection under My resources
Create a folder shared with team membersNew shared folder in the Connection Manager toolbar

Both let you choose Don’t copy credentials (the default) or copy them: with credentials, the password is sent to the recipients. A shared connection opens for them without being saved in their own list; they can save it if they want.

Tips

  • Prefer exporting without passwords and let each person save their own.
  • A .uri export with Include extensions is the most complete way to move connections between two installations of Oxys DB Studio.

Troubleshooting
